Quilt #130 Ray and Donna Gowdy donated by Kathy Jackson, Silvia Milner and Mary Duke

 

Quilt #130 was given to Ray and Donna Gowdy by their friends Kathy Jackson, Sylvia Milner and Mary Duke.

Ray was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis disease several years ago. It is a disease that thickens the tissues in your lungs and causes scar tissue to form eventually making it impossible to breathe. Ray has been put on hospice and is not expected to live through next year.

Meanwhile, Donna has been having issues with AFIB which causes an irregular heartbeat and is very dangerous. She has been hospitalized twice in the last month.

We want Donna and Ray to know how much they are loved. This quilt is a small way to show our love for them.  There is love in the stitches....

Quilt #129 Sterling and Kaylene Harris donated by Young Women of Heritage Park 6th Ward

 

Quilt #129 was given to the Sterling and Kaylene Harris Family. The Harris family had a baby boy named Milo who died of SIDS when he was 3 months old. 

When the Young Women of the Heritage Park 6th Ward heard that this sweet family lost their baby, they were heartbroken, and all agreed that they wanted to make a Duncan Quild for this sweet family. So for the next month these Young Women got together often to make this beautiful quilt of love. 

We hope this family will use this quilt and feel our love as they wrap themselves up in it. There is so much love in the stitches....

Quilt #128 Min Tuttle donated by Mary Duke

 

Quilt #128 was donated to Min Tuttle by Mary Duke.

Here is Min's story provided by her mother. 

In 2020, Min went hiking with her niece and nephew to Twin Lake in Big Cottonwood Canyon. It took 3 times longer than her normal time to finish the hike because her legs kept wanting to give out on her,

About 2 years later, walking became difficult and she started using a walking stick. She went to a chiropractor thinking she was out of alignment. After a month with only a small improvement, he told her to make an appointment with a neurologist. Even though she had difficulty walking, she continued to go to work.

In 2022, her right leg gave out on her and she fell at home. She went to the Emergency Room where she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis (MS). She ended up staying in the hospital for 10 days. She came home with a walker. 

After 14 months of physical therapy, she was given approval by her doctor to return to work with her walker.

Before her MS diagnosis, Min was an active person who loved to hike and bike. Currently, she can no longer hike and bike but hopes someday to be able to do them again.

MS affects everyone differently, but one thing that is common to all is fatigue. Even though Min lives with fatigue and weakness in her right leg, she still gets up and goes to work even though she would prefer to sleep. She has always been tenacious which has helped her to endure her limited mobility, fatigue and other MS symptoms. MS has turned her world upside down but she has remained cheerful, dependable, independent and does her best to help out as she is able. Min is an MS warrior.

Quilt #127 Charlotte Moak donated by Mary Duke

 

Quilt #127 was presented to 5 year old Charlotte Moak by Mary Duke.

Charlette's parents shared this:

Early in November of 2023 Charlotte's parents noticed that she had swollen lymph nodes behind her ear. They did antibiotics and steroids and the swelling didn't go down, it stayed the same. So they did an ultrasound and then ordered a biopsy. One of the lymph nodes was removed and biopsied and the results came back with bad news. Our Supergirl was diagnosed with B Lymphoblastic Lymphoma. She has a battle ahead of her, but we will be her army right by her side. Her Fight is our Fight.

Quilt #125 Travis and Christina Johnson donated by Heritage Park 6th Ward Young Women

 

Quilt #125 goes to the wonderful Travis and Christina Johnson family. 

Last month, Christina gave birth to a beautiful little stillborn baby girl. Since our young women made a quilt a few months ago for another family in our neighborhood who had a stillborn, they suggested we make another quilt when they heard about the loss of little Charlotte Ann.

Our hearts go out to this sweet family. Christina's book club friends donated the funds to have this quilt quilted.

Quilt #126 Jane Perlow

Mary Duke writes:

This sweet lady, Jane Perlow, just received Quilt #126. For most people, when they retire, life gets a bit easier. Not for this dear lady.  She has a husband who has gone blind over the last few years. He also just finished radiation therapy to get rid of his skin cancer. She also helps with the care of her sweet elderly mother. She has a daughter who struggles with emotional issues and has attempted suicide a few times in the last five years.

Jane also has a son who was hit on his motorcycle 10 weeks ago and has so many broken bones that he can't take care of himself. She has a niece. whom she helped raise, who just had a brain tumor removed and a brother who got into a bad trucking accident and needs extra help.

Jane just retired last year. It breaks my heart to see all that she is going through. I wish I had the time to make all her people quilts. I hope as she cuddles under this quilt, she will feel the love and support from so many people who love her and look up to her for all she does for her loved ones.

Quilt #124 Cherie Yates donated by Book Club and Sandy Solt

 

Quilt #124 was presented to Cherie Yates by her book club and Sandy Solt.

Cherie has recently been dealing with a number of family health issues including the passing of her mother. 

Cherie has a warmth and intelligence that is so endearing to those who are lucky enough to know her. She has spent so much of her life caring for others. We just wanted her to know she is seen and so loved.
